Things I Like: Fortnite (Zero Build)

Image
Fortnite trolled me (they're "anti" dancing)   I think you should play Fortnite. If you've tried it out before or you've never played it, I believe it deserves you to check it out again. If you currently play, good for you. Let me know what you think or what I should add to the items below. If you were turned off to the game because of the building mechanic, no fear. There is a Zero Build version of the game where building is completely turned off and you can play as you otherwise would. This is what I play primarily. Fun I think it is really fun to play. I've been playing it on and off since it came out and it's currently the only game (maybe aside from Destiny 2) that continues to pique my interest. Youtube: (7:32) Now! That's How you Make an Entrance Familiar Gameplay Fortnite is a fun game to play. It's easy to get used to playing. If you've played any 3rd person game then you will easily be able to hop in and understand the controls. Satis...

Creation: (VR World) Nowhere

Image
Nowhere is a VR Exploration World that I created in Meta’s Horizon Worlds.   It’s my second fully completed game system/loop and I really like the aesthetics and ambience – it exudes “liminal space” vibes. I created it as an approachable introductory experience for people interested in seeing what you can do (play and/or build) in VR. It’s essentially an exploration platformer, but the world is really the star.   Plus, there are some fun mechanics built into this World that you won’t see at first glance and can’t really tell if you are playing solo (which I do recommend. It was built with solo players in mind, so I didn’t account for the tracking of time for multiple people). To really understand you would need to explore the world with another player.   The game mechanics are quite simple (go into area, find key, traverse area, put key in place, repeat x4) but the music and ambience are where it shines.   Promo 1 (0m23s): https://www.youtu...

Earth is a Spaceship

Image
Image created with ChatGPT prompt: create an image based on this writing. the image should have different asthetics from the images you have produced previously   URL: SoundCloud Earth is a Spaceship Earth is a spaceship With no destination Always travelling Into infinitude   We are all neighbors And crewmates, and stewards Tending our ship Is our utmost goal   Why are we quarreling And hating and hiding No fruitful voyage Could withstand such a toll   We are all bears And willows, and truffles Amoebas, archaea And bacteria   We are protectors As thinkers and actors But we also continue To exact our toll   Continued protection And masterful gardening As humans its time We realize our role

We are energy benders

Image
Image created with ChatGPT prompt: Create an image based on the context of the writing We are energy benders. That’s what our free will gives us. The dominion over our instinctual nature, and thus over the other natures. Beavers can manipulate their environment, but their understanding is purely local. We as humans have the unique (seemingly, though it remains to be seen what experiences other animals have beyond our current understanding) ability to both understand our smallness and our greatness. We can notice that we are noticing, allowing us to break from our impulses and move the energies in a direction of our choosing. We can deliberately block a stream with our foot to divert it elsewhere. We can build a pyramidion shelter of sticks. But most importantly, we can recognize that we have more to recognize. And we now have the tools to give us unfettered dominion over that line of curiosity. Research’s next step is going to be forward producing and “self-perfecting.” We have sp...

The Puppeteers

Image
Image generated with ChatGPT prompt of: Generate an image based on the context of the writing Link (wikipedia): Plato's Allegory of the Cave Background Plato's Allegory of the Cave is a thought experiment to get us to think about the role of education and ignorance on human advancement and progress and personal self-growth. In the allegory - a "hero" has lived his entire life in a cave. His neck and feet are chained and he is only able to look forward. There is light coming in from the mouth of the cave, and there are "unknown and unseen" entities who hold up objects that cast shadows on the wall in front of the "hero" (and others like him). To the hero - these "shadows" of the shapes are all they he knows. These shadow shapes are, in effect, his entire reality. He has no reason to believe that there are others who are puppeting these shapes and that what he is seeing is merely a low-resolution, 2-dimensional representation of the feature...

Entropy

Image
Image created with ChatGPT prompt: Create a image prompt to capture the essence of the original writing and then create a picture based on that prompt   Both high and low entropy are disorganized. It’s in the in between when patterns emerge. Patterns emerge due to the interactions of one body with another. The individual bodies maintain their properties until the merging with the other body is complete. This is friction. Pre-existing boundaries lead to unique interactions between bodies – just as the milk forms nebulaic structures in the tea before turning the entire tincture opaque. Friction is when an individual body interacts with another. Increasing friction decreases entropy. More friction, less randomness. We as humans can guide friction between bodies thus harnessing the ability to control, and create, entropic states. (Our consciousness seem to live outside the entropic order.) Regardless of the what, the why, or the how – we have the ability to control friction b...

How to Achieve Anything: A Traveler’s Guide to Life and Goals

Image
How do you achieve what you want? How do you create something from nothing - something that only exists as ideas that live in your head? How can you do this in an abstract (repeatable; reusable) yet actionable manner? How do you travel to a place, or in a direction, that you've never traveled before?   NEWS FLASH: If you don't make it happen, it's not going to happen. You can endlessly hope that your dream life will land in your lap. Has it happened to some people? Sure. Can you count on it happening? Hell no. If you passively let life happen, others may exploit your energy while you drift without direction. You get to pick what you want to do and where you want to go.   See below for: I want to travel to a specific location (goal-oriented; specific, measurable outcome) I want to travel in a "specific" direction (growth-oriented; nonspecific, immeasurable outcome)

"New Year, New Me"...is bullshit (but there's still stuff we can learn)

It IS a new year But you are still the same you. And I'm still the same me. Now actions? Those can change. Mindsets? Those can change too. It's easy to get lost thinking about being someone new or different. Running from your past into a future sloughed of your mental and emotional snakeskins. Burying your failures, writing your successes in stone, and resting on your laurels. But who you are, and who you will become, are all direct functions of who you were and where you came from. ------ A quick aside - a history lesson and thought experiment: The Ship of Theseus An ancient story and philosophical paradox/thought experiment. Imagine you have a ship made of wood called the "Grand Miss." Now, imagine that the Grand Miss is old and needs fixing. So you take her to the port and ask your favorite shipbuilders to handle the repairs. The shipbuilders meticulously, piece-by-piece, replace EVERY board on the ship with a new board. They start with planks on the side of the...
